This week proved to be quite a whirlwind as 2020 continues to never cease to amaze. On Tuesday 2,750 tons of aluminum nitrate stored unsafely in Warehouse 12 at the Port of Beirut resulted in a massive explosion. The gigantic blast shook an already ailing country of Lebanon to its core. Hundreds of thousands are without homes, food and livelihood as billions of dollars in damage occurred due to this catastrophe. Several countries such as Baghdad and Great Britain have rushed to provide aid for the crippled country. It is much too early to determine who fault but early signs point to neglect on the part of Lebanese port employees.
Furthermore, President Trump has enacted plans to utilize the power of executive order to effectively ban powerhouse Chinese apps TikTok and WeChat. This could have serious gaming ramifications as WeChat’s parent company Tencent owns games such as Fortnite and League of Legends. Tencent also has stakes in companies such as Tesla, Snapchat and Universal Music. 
Kodak the company known for providing that photographic moment is supposedly in talks to develop medicine. The Trump Administration was responsible for providing them with a $765M loan for chemical purposes to cut the United States dependence on supplies from India and China. The plan is to develop an arsenal of medical supplies through Kodak’s newfound pharmaceutical division. Only time will tell how this might benefit or stunt the growth/recovery of our country.
The Governor of Ohio, MIke DeWine tested (rapid) positive on Thursday prior to a visit from President Trump. Upon further testing (sensitive) it turned out that DeWine did not contract the virus.
“The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) recommends use of rapid influenza molecular assessments over rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs) for detection of influenza viruses in respiratory specimens of outpatients. IDSA recommends use of RT-PCR or other molecular assesments for detection of influenza viruses in respiratory specimens of hospitalized patients.” (CDC)
Initially, DeWine received results for his COVID diagnosis within 10-15 minutes. Once he got examined further through a method such as immunofluorescence where they can determine greater detail, he proved negative. It leads one to think, how do the cases truly stack up?
Regardless, this year has been filled with tragedy and unpredictability. Take time to show gratitude and compassion as tomorrow is never promised.
