1. Lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease
Coffee is rich in antioxidant compounds called polyphenols which stimulate brain health. There is a considerable amount of evidence that caffeine may protect against and/or prevent Alzheimer’s disease. From the European Journal of Neurology (link).
2. Reduces suicide risk and Depression
A ten year study involving 86,000 female nurses reflects a reduced risk of suicide and a mood improvement in coffee drinkers. From the Archives of Internal Medicine (link). Get sipping! ☕️
3. Coffee drinkers have stronger DNA.
A study published in the European Journal of Nutrition showed that coffee drinkers have DNA with stronger integrity since the white blood cells of coffee drinkers had far less instance of spontaneous DNA strand breakage. Study abstract.
4. Coffee has shown tremendous results for liver longevity.
Studies show that people who drink at least one cup of coffee per day are twenty percent less likely to develop cirrhosis or other liver-related ailments.
5. It will keep your skin healthy.
Coffee may protect against melanoma. A study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found that melanoma risk decreases with coffee consumption and that this risk decreases with each cup consumed. Study link.
6. It provides a short-term memory boost.
When a group of volunteers received a dose of 100 milligrams (mg) of caffeine, about as much contained in a single cup of coffee, Austrian researchers found a surge in the volunteers’ brain activity, measured by functional magnetic resonance imagery (fMRI), as they performed a memory task. The researchers recorded that the memory skills and reaction times of the caffeinated volunteers were also improved when compared to the control group who received a placebo and showed no increase in brain activity.
7. Coffee is healthy for your heart.
A landmark Dutch study, which analyzed data from more than 37,000 people over a period of 13 years, found that moderate coffee drinkers (who consumed between two to four cups daily) had a 20 percent lower risk of heart disease as compared to heavy or light coffee drinkers, and non drinkers. Coffee works to protect your heart due to its high antioxidant content.
8. Less Gout Risk: Risk for developing gout (in men) decreases with increasing coffee consumption.
Coffee reduces the uric acid levels within the bloodstream. This study exhibits cases of over 50,000 men who have avoided gout through coffee consumption (link).
9.Prevents Retinal Damage and keeps your eyes sharp
A Cornell University Study showed that coffee may prevent retinal damage due to oxidative stress. Caffeine isn’t the culprit here, but rather chlorogenic acid (CLA), which is one of the strong antioxidants found in the coffee bean lends out a helping hand. It does so by acting as a neuroprotectant to protect against deprivation of oxygen to areas of the body and prevent degeneration. Link
10. Black coffee prevents cavities.
Researchers out of Brazil found that strong black coffee kills the bacteria on teeth that leads to tooth decay. Adding milk or sugar to coffee negates this benefit. –link
