Cardi B’s debut single for Atlantic Records has soared the charts and assumed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Easily eclipsing Taylor Swift’s, “Look What You Made Me Do” is Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow.”
The song pays homage to a similar rhyme scheme and cadence used by Kodak Black on his song “No Flockin.”
Bodak Yellow is the first solo rap song by a female artist to earn a number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill’s “Doo-Wop.”
According to Nielsen Music the song was streamed 46.4 million times the week of September 21, which is a 14 percent increase from the week before. Cardi’s new album is slated to drop next month.
Congratulations, Cardi B!
