The end of the Spring 2015 semester is closely approaching. With nearly a month to go, there has been a lot of events and activities happening in the Syracuse University realm of existence. It is beautiful to see all of the campaigns, mentorship programs and philanthropies evolving and actively coming together. Here is a short overview of the most recent happenings on campus at Syracuse.
This past week Project G.R.I.N.D. hosted events on campus to inspire young adults and create an awareness of important issues going on within the community. These fun and interactive events allowed for the college students to foster an environment filled with love, compassion, motivation and ambition. The children responded well to these events as they were able to educationally compete for the right to better themselves in every aspect. What these young men are doing for this program and for the kids is astonishing. They have been honored with awards and have had their efforts recognized. But they remain humble and continue to aspire to be the best that they can be. That way, everyone involved with Project G.R.I.N.D. can do the same. Greatness Resides In Non-Stop Dedication and that is the message these bright young men will continue to spread throughout their communities.
The Syracuse University Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ) hosted Angie Martinez in their most recent event. This event was apart of their, “Women in the Media” series which showcases outstanding women who play a role in shaping media and how we see things. Angie Martinez, also known as, “The Voice of New York” came through and kicked knowledge with those involved. A few informative and memorable tidbits she dropped can be seen below.
“You build trust not only with your audience, but with the people who come and sit in the chair with you.”
“When you don’t feel the next step of what you’re doing somewhere, it’s time to go.”
“You have to have peace and healthy balance.”
She’s The First (STF) of Syracuse brought Gabrielle J. Williams to speak about her work, “The Making of a Young Entrepreneur.” She imparted wisdom, factual statements and relevant ideas to her audience. The event was very well organized and included stories and advice from a young woman who is very strong-willed and goal-oriented. Some of the key words to the wise can be seen below.
“Practice makes progress, not perfect.”
“You don’t have to be an entrepreneur, but ned the mindset of an entrepreneur.”
“What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”
“Don’t make friends, but choose them.”
“Nothing will ever matter unless you let it.”
Last, but not least, Syracuse is set to host more fashion shows. In fact, it will host five of them. These shows will help benefit the needy, while showcasing Syracuse’s bright young talents and aspiring designers. Many of these people look to make an impact on those in the crowd with style, attitude, swag and most importantly their choice of clothing. Runways are set to be filled, flash mobs will occur and dancing is inevitable. Just make sure you enjoy yourself.
